Frequently Asked Questions

Counseling and Therapy Questions

Review the following questions to see if counseling is right for you.

How do I know if therapy is a good fit for me and how can it help me?

Therapy is a good fit when you recognize you’re facing challenges that you can’t resolve on your own. If you feel stuck or overwhelmed by patterns that no longer serve you, therapy can help you break free and introduce new strategies for lasting well-being. It’s an act of strength and self-awareness to seek support and commit to meaningful change.

What is counseling/psychotherapy like? What can I expect?

Psychotherapy offers a space where you don’t have to navigate life’s struggles alone. It provides new strategies and perspectives, helping you confront challenges, build on your strengths, and find peace. You’ll work with your therapist to create a path forward, finding comfort and direction as you go.

Can medication serve as a substitute for therapy?

Medication can help alleviate symptoms of emotional distress but isn’t a substitute for therapy. Research suggests that combining therapy and medication is often the most effective approach. Therapy helps uncover the root causes of distress, allowing you to develop long-term coping strategies. When needed, medication can be integrated to promote immediate relief while therapy addresses deeper issues.

For how long does therapy usually last?

The length of therapy varies based on individual needs. Clients and therapists regularly assess progress together, deciding when to pause, stop, or spread out sessions. Therapy’s goal is to enhance well-being, so the decision to continue or end therapy is ultimately up to you.

How do I pick the right therapist for me?

Choosing the right therapist is essential for your healing. Look for someone you feel comfortable with, who makes you feel heard and accepted without judgment. Trust is of the utmost importance, so seek a therapist who is authentic, invested, and aligned with your needs. Research their experience and reviews, and if possible, schedule a consultation to see if the connection feels right.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes, therapy is confidential. Therapists are legally and ethically required to protect your privacy. Confidentiality creates a safe and trusting environment, so you can be open without worrying about your personal information being shared. However, there are a few exceptions: therapists must report if you’re a danger to yourself or others, or if there’s suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elderly person, or dependent adult.

Do you accept insurance?

I’m not an in-network provider and don’t accept insurance for reimbursement. Clients are asked to make credit card payments at the time of our sessions. However, some insurance companies offer out-of-network benefits. You can check with your insurance provider, and if eligible, I can provide a “superbill” for you to submit for reimbursement.

Do you see people in person or only online?

I offer only online therapy at this time. Online therapy provides the same intimacy and confidentiality as in-person sessions with the added benefit of convenience, allowing you to connect from the comfort of your own space. Whether you’re at home or on the go, therapy is just a click away.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

A Good Faith Estimate (GFE) is required by the No Surprises Act and aims to provide a clear understanding of the expected costs for psychotherapy services before you begin therapy. This federal law is designed to protect individuals from unexpected bills, ensuring transparency in healthcare costs. The GFE reflects my commitment to clear and honest communication, so you know what to expect financially and can make informed decisions about your care without concern for unexpected changes.
